During
their first two years, students participate in the following courses:
CAREER INDEPENDENCE: Career Orientation, Psychology of Learning, Career
Seminar, Life Management, Job Shadow/Interview Lab and On-the-job Training.
PERSONAL INDEPENDENCE: Money Management, Personal Management, Nutrition
/ Cooking, Cleaning, Health, Human Sexuality and Fitness.
SOCIAL
INDEPENDENCE: Stress Management, Communication Skills, Personal Ethics,
Conflict Management, Relationship Seminar and Problem solving.
ADDITIONAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: Topical Seminars, Program Tutoring,
Personal Advising, Self Defense, Computer Lab, Personal Expression Activities
and Community Activities.
Horizons
students receive job-related experience in the metropolitan Birmingham
area. Students explore 15 career clusters through field trips, guest lectures,
research, interviews, volunteer work, job shadowing and on-the-job training.
Students develop personal resumes and job search notebooks to assist in
individual job search activities.
